The apps

Full Compass keeps everything in data files on your own computer (or in a shared folder your practice chooses). There is no account with us, no cloud copy, and no analytics or tracking of any kind.

The update check

When the start page opens, and when you choose Tools > Check for Updates, it reads the list of the latest versions from updates.fullcompass.co.uk, and downloads any update you install from there. That request carries nothing about you, your practice or your clients; like any request on the internet, the site's host sees your computer's IP address. You can turn the check off in Tools > Settings.

What you send yourself

Some features talk to HMRC or Companies House, and only when you ask them to:

• filing a return, payroll submission, VAT return or company accounts, and asking for its status;
• fetching information you request, such as a company's record from Companies House, or a client's details or tax code notices from HMRC.

These go straight from your computer to HMRC or Companies House, with your own credentials; they don't pass through us. HMRC's Making Tax Digital services require software to send fraud prevention information about the device and connection with each call, as HMRC's rules set out.

Email

If your practice turns on password reset emails, the start page sends them through the mail server your practice sets up. The Help menu's links to GOV.UK and Companies House open in your web browser.

This website

www.fullcompass.co.uk is a set of plain pages, served by GitHub Pages. It sets no cookies and has no analytics, adverts or tracking. GitHub, as the host, keeps the usual server records, such as IP addresses, under its own privacy statement.

The download and what's new pages read the list of the latest versions from updates.fullcompass.co.uk, also served by GitHub Pages, so they can show the current version and notes.
